Starting off with Personal Health Budgets

Personal Health budgets are available to service users who have Complex needs and have continuing care, these funds come from either the NHS or your elected Clinical Commission Group (CCG).

For clients who are under continuing care, a Person Health Budget which you can use to find carers, train carers and pay your carers through this to fit the right needs of the service user. People who have a Personal Health Budget (PHB) in place can either run everything themselves or have a healthcare provider to help consult them and run everything such as training and payments for you.

Here at Secure Healthcare Solutions, we have our own consultancy and administration service called Secure Personal Assistants, we offer the help of managing your Personal Health Budget working alongside the CCG and the Care Quality Commission. A Personal Health budget can also allow you to purchase other services and equipment to help better the service of care which is set in the parameters by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) The Funding can vary with numerous of restrictions depending on where you live.

There are some disadvantages to having a Personal Health Budget. Some families of the service users may find out that it is very hard to manage the carers themselves and find out that it’s extra work that they may be struggling with. Others run into difficulties hiring the right carers for a long period of time. Benefits of having a Personal Health Budget:

  • Managed by a third party (agency)

  • Manged by the NHS Commissioner

  • Self-Managed through direct payment

Personal Budgets Cannot be used for:

  • Part-Fund Treatment with patients’ personal money

  • Fund primary medical and emergency services

  • Fund anything illegal or be put towards gambling, debt repayment, alcohol or Tobacco

  • Pay for carers who live with the PHB holder AND are also relatives (only in an exceptional circumstance)
