The NHS has estimated by the year 2024 the number of patients benefitting from Personal Health Budgets will have increased, to around 200,00 but results show that implementation of Personal Health Budgets hasn’t always been smooth sailing. So to ensure that the tools and funds are used effectively for the users and not burdened on staff, it is important that commissioners get the right.
Individuals are the best places to make decisions about their care, and their care needs are always altered and different from others. Efforts to deliver more person-centered care have grown from the strength of Personal Health Budgets.
As Personal Health budgets expand, commissioners are in need take some thorough research and investigate the current models of their service of delivery and work alongside providers to meet the Personal Health Budget Holders’ needs. Failing to do this will likely lead to people missing out on the choice to have control over everything and losing control of the personalization of their needs which is the reason for a Personal Health Budget.
A Personal Health Budget is important to many individuals who require care under the Care Commissioners, it is to give people more choice and control over the money spent and meet their personal health and wellbeing needs, in order to help meet their needs in a way that is most appropriate for them.
Before an existing CHC-funded individual can start the process of setting up their own Personal Health Budget, they must have an up-to-date assessment which should be completed in the last 3 months, and up to date care plan.
It is important to note that your personal health budget is not ‘Set’. If an individual for some reason isn’t in a position to purchase the care, they need to start using an indicative budget from there, which is an opportunity to change the ‘Final’ budget. Any changes to the final budget will be based upon discussions with the individual and the head of the CHC.
If an individual decides to proceed and use a broker to help develop their support such as Secure Personal Assistants. It is important that we know how much money the Personal Health Budget holder has to spend.
In this budget, they will assist with the employment of staff, training of staff, and getting the equipment for the staff.
